Finding an 'Imagine' Event - here are two ideas and an opportunity to participate

I can offer you three opportunities to do that today. I said that often you find 'imagine' type events in unexpected places. Two places I have found them in recent times are in some primary schools that I worked with last year. They know how to use their imaginations and they have participative events with all the pupils, staff and parents involved. School assemblies and special events like Burns Nights at places like Kirklandneuk PS and Auchenlodment PS in Renfrewshire are amazing to behold. They embody the essence of all that I said in my last blog about 'imagine ' type events and they are being organised and delivered many many times in our schools. Another place you can find a good example of an imaginative event is in South Leith Parish Church every Sunday. The minister there Ian Gilmour and his team deliver an amazing performance with something for everyone-an all age event. The stories, the humour, the participation , the creativity are all there and its free! You will get a great welcome - also a key part of any 'imagine' type event. So there you are, two places where you might not expect to see or experience a great example of an imaginative, participative event. If you go to South Leith do tell the team there what you think as they welcome feedback and tell them I sent you. This is also a church that walks its talk in terms of what it does in the and for the community. The web site is http://www.slpc.co.uk/ and if you are looking for a venue for an event try www.thehallsvenue.co.uk as the welcome you get there is just as good. If you are in Glasgow-well that is another blog for another day. The opportunity to participate mentioned in the title- well that is on the 1 April when Bliss Browne of Imagine Chicago fame will be in Scotland and we will run an event together. More details to come. It will be in Edinburgh on 1 April and will include techniques for engaging the public and creating community; appreciative Inquiry design and questions and more. More later. Imagine a Scotland where everyone felt able to be imaginative, creative and received such a welcome that they were able to join in and give of their very best.
